  1. What is the online password reset feature?

    Online password reset is a feature that allows all faculty, staff and students with computing accounts to change their Kerberos password even if they forget their old one. It allows you to verify your identity by responding to identity verification questions. During set-up, you can select the identity verification questions from a list and/or create your own question. Online password reset is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Changes made to your Kerberos password using online password reset will be effective immediately. Visit the UC Davis Computing Account Services Web site (http://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu) and select Change your password to set up this feature at any time.

  2. How many questions do I have to choose from? Can I create my own questions?

    You will have ten stock questions to choose from each time you visit the online password reset page. The ten questions are randomly selected from a list of stock questions. You may also create a question of your own.

  3. Is there a minimum or maximum number of questions I have to select when I set up online password reset?

    You must select at least two questions when setting up this feature. There is no maximum, but you should keep in mind that in order to benefit from this feature, you will have to remember the answers to all of the questions you select.

  4. Am I required to set up this feature on my computer account?

    No. Online password reset is an opt-in service, meaning that in order to have this feature on your account you will need to sign up for it. However, you are strongly encouraged to set it up, especially if you do not use your Kerberos password often.

  5. What happens if I forget the answers to the questions I select?

    If you forget the answer to one or more of the questions you select, you will need to take a photo ID to one of the Password Reset locations on campus: 182 Shields Library, MU Station, 1154 Meyer, 15 Olson, 1101 Hart, 75 Hutchison, or contact your departmental Account Proxy.

  6. What information will I need in order to change my password online?

    To sign in to the UC Davis Computing Account Services Web site (http://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu), you will need your name, date of birth and student employee id number or social security number. You will also need to have the answers to each question you selected when you set up the online password reset feature.

  7. Will I be assigned a password or do I get to choose my own password?

    You can choose your own password, but there are some guidelines for setting up Kerberos passwords. Details are available when you are selecting a password.

  8. What are the benefits of using the online password reset feature?

    When you set up this feature, you can reset a forgotten Kerberos password online at any time of the day or night. If you do not set up this feature and you forget your password, you will need to go to one of the Password Reset locations on campus: 182 Shields Library, MU Station, 1154 Meyer, 15 Olson, 1101 Hart, 75 Hutchison, with your student registration card or employee id in order to get a new password.

  9. Once I set up the service, how do I use it?

    After you set up this feature, you will be able to return to the UC Davis Computing Account Services Web site (http://computingaccounts.ucdavis.edu) and select Change your password. At the Authorization Method prompt, select Identity Verification Questions, then answer the questions you selected when you set up the feature.

  10. Who do I contact if I have questions or a problem with this service?
